The Friday Job Report - Week 4

Feb 06, 2026
Connect

2026 - Week 4

I had planned to have a new platform go live this week, but due to the major winter storm, my days have been much busier than I had hoped, and I will work to get the upgrade done for next week.

This week, I have almost one job for each industry. There are many jobs in Europe for those of you outside the US, especially if you can speak French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, or Swedish. There are roles for which you have a better chance of getting an interview.

If you get an interview, My Met Job offers mock interviews where you can face 1 to 3 people who are meteorologists and will ask you questions that you would get in an interview. Additionally, if you want to practice taking forecast tests with or without the mock interview, we can provide that experience as well. If you are interested, reach out to scott@mymetjob.com.

Just a reminder, if you need a refresher on pattern recognition or want to learn how to recognize upper-level patterns and use them to predict surface conditions, My Met Job will offer a short 4-week course to cover pattern recognition. Again, if you are interested, send an email to learning@mymetjob.com and just put in the subject line what you are interested in doing.

Air Quality Meteorology

Job Title: Senior Applied Meteorologist

Company: Trinity Consultants

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah

Work-Location: Onsite

Pay: 105,000 - 130,000/year USD

Hours: None Given

Benefits: None Given

Qualifications:

Degree: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field.

Years: 7+ years of experience in applied meteorology, forecasting, or atmospheric science in operational, consulting, or industrial settings.

Skills:

  • Fire weather forecasting

  • Wind and boundary-layer meteorology

  • Air quality and dispersion modeling support

  • Forensic or historical meteorology

  • Proven experience driving business growth, including client development, proposal support, or service line expansion.

  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

  • Experience working with regulatory-grade or defensible meteorological analyses.

  • Certified Consulting Meteorologist (CCM) or progress toward certification.

  • Experience supporting air permitting, compliance, or litigation-related meteorological analyses.

Who Should Apply?

  • Salt Lake City is definitely a location with air quality issues. The topographical setup there is a steep valley surrounded by 5 to 6,000 ft walls up to mountain peaks that are 10-11,000 feet in elevation. On the North side, they have a salt lake that freezes at such a low temperature that it often stays unfrozen all winter. This provides an endless source of lake effect snow and moisture. Once you get the first snow, high pressure settles in and creates an inversion. I once flew to Salt Lake City knowing this pattern was going to be there, and I hiked up to a 9,000-foot peak so I could take pictures above the inversion.

  • You should apply if you have a strong background in boundary layer meteorology and you understand mountain meteorology dynamics, which would help with fire forecasting. This is probably a really interesting job for the right person, especially someone living in the western US or who has lived there.

Inversion over Salt Lake. Down in the valley, it was snowing, and visibilitywas around 1 mile at the most. You couldn’t even see the mountains.

Maybe you want to gain experience forecasting in mountain meteorology or the boundary layer. My Met Job will offer asynchronous courses on this topic. If you are interested, send an email to learning@mymetjob.com. I will just note your interest; you are not committing to anything.

Operational Meteorologist

Job Title: Weather Coordinator

Company: Unknown

Location: Chattanooga, TN

Work-Location: Onsite

Pay: Unknown

Hours: 24/7

Qualifications:

Degree: Bachelor’s Degree in Meteorology, although it doesn’t say you need a degree.

  • Knowledge of weather observation and forecasting techniques.

  • Understanding of meteorological equipment and technology.

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and safety protocols in relevant industries (e.g., aviation, agriculture, emergency management).

Who Should Apply?

There is not a lot about this job, but the bar is pretty low for entry, and if you are looking for your first job, I would give it a go. If you have not been to Chattanooga, it is a pretty cool, small city near the Smoky Mountains. There is a lot to do all year around and you are not too far from Nashville, Atlanta, or Charlotte, NC. I think most people graduating these days will meet the qualifications of this job.

Final Thoughts

All kinds of jobs have been posted in recent days, with many forecasting roles that are not heavy on programming. If you are early in your career, keep your options open and be willing to move locations. You can always move back later in your career. More experienced people, later in their careers, and with families. There are remote jobs that open here or there, but you need to be on it, because they get a lot of applications.

If you are based outside the US, many opportunities have been posted across Europe, Asia, and South America.

A Solution for Your Future

If nothing else, My Met Job was created for the sole purpose of one meteorologist, me, helping other meteorologists build a successful career in meteorology, climate, or some other profession without making all the mistakes I did along the way, and making this happen a lot faster than the 15 years it took me.

My Met Job provides the following, plus a lot more,

Resume/Cover Letters - Small tweaks to complete rewrites

Interview/Skill Tests - Mock Interviews with real, active meteorologists in specific industries and real forecast tests.

Skill Building - Courses designed to help you understand how to forecast as a professional meteorologist.

Community - Everyone needs community, especially in such a small, niche career field like meteorology. Meeting new people, beyond the few you attend university with, can be challenging. The My Met Job community is just that, a place to network without it being awkward.

More to come in February. Good luck with your job search, interviews, and landing your next job.

2026 - Week 8 The theme of this week is thinking outside the box regarding your career. Think of all the ways weather can influence life on Earth. While the main industries as an operational meteorologist might be energy, aviation, marine, road transportation, sports, events, outdoor recreation, and severe weather, there are so many other ways in which the weather and climate influence day-to-d...
Friday Job Report - Week 7
2026 - Week 7 There are a few things, as a meteorologist, that are sort of the foundation of how I manage my meteorology career. These may be the way I approach a busy work day, a challenging forecast, or just how I try to utilize on a day-to-day basis. I will be focusing on one of these each week over the next several weeks, and if you ever meet with me, I will likely rehash these sa...
The Friday Job Report - Week 3
2026 - Week 3 Pattern recognition is so important to learn as a meteorologist because it helps you make more confident short-range forecasts, but it is also directly related to long-range forecasts using teleconnections and analogs. If you can read the patterns, you can jump the models or predict what they are going to show before they show it, and you more assuredly inform a client about the i...
